Headcanon Post
Because I know that there are a lot of things about Kurow that canon is a little bit ambiguous about and that lots of people have differing opinions of, and because I've... actually developed quite a bit of headcanon for Kurow in those areas (it happens when you play him at an amnesia game first and then bring him to Pokémon land), despite how a lot of it doesn't directly affect how I play him really, I figure it's probably a good idea to actually write some of this down so that people know where I'm coming from. If you have any questions, comments, disagreements, etc with what I've put here, feel free to comment and I would be happy to discuss my reasoning. And heck, I might even change my mind if you're convincing enough!
Naturally, this post will contain MASSIVE SPOILERS for the ending of Okamiden. You know, the ones I tried to avoid putting down in the application.
...Also, this is under construction still, so. If it seems incomplete, that's because it is!
Re: Kurow's Birth
So, let's start with the main spoiler: Kurow is a clone of Waka, created for the purpose of sealing Akuro long enough for Chibiterasu to kill him.
The first question that can be asked is, when was he created? Canon does specify that it was Waka who made him, and given his gift of prophesy, he could have seen the need for such a thing a long time before the need actually occurred. Breaking Waka's life into four time periods, there's "before the Moon's civilization collapsed", "time spent on the Celestial Plain", "two hundred years on Nippon", and "the last nine months or so".
While he was on Nippon can be immediately ruled out, because Kurow crashed to Nippon on a space ship - if he'd been created on Nippon, he would have had to have been sent up into space on that ship as well, which someone would have seen. Plus, wouldn't it be redundant? And wouldn't the Tao Troopers have noticed their boss growing a copy of himself?
I also doubt it was within the last nine months, because the Knowing Jewel knew about Akuro, and that information was specifically imparted to it by Waka, as specified by his one five-second cameo. And since he already knew about the whole vessel of light business before Amaterasu defeated Orochi, he'd probably already started his counterstrike. Waka is not one to put off important things, after all.
And I doubt that he would have really had the opportunity or the necessary equipment to do it on the Celestial Plain, either. So, this means that he created Kurow while he was still on the Moon. He would have had the necessary equipment there, it wouldn't have been much of a problem.
"But Katie," you might be asking, "Kurow is just a kid! How could he have been created over 200 years ago?" And the simple solution is, suspended animation and/or leaving him incomplete and sending him into orbit so that at the appropriate time the ship's programming could complete the process and give him life.
